RM Concert Replays - ALWAYS Tue., Thurs. & Sat.

Post by RMM »

For those who are not aware, Radio Margaritaville runs concert replays three times a week when Jimmy isn't touring. The schedule is:

DAY TIME DATE CONCERT (Example)
--------- ----------------------- ------- -----------------------------
Tuesday 8:00 - 10:00p.m. ET 7-27 Sag Harbor, NY 11-20-99

Thursday Noon - 2:00 p.m. ET 7-29 Sag Harbor, NY 11-20-99

Saturday 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. ET 7-31 Sag Harbor, NY 11-20-99

The same concert is played three times that week only, and then they change it. Tuesday is always the first day of a concert replay (or has been) and the times never change.

I have been following these replays for several months and the schedule seems fixed in stone. Sometimes they're late in telling you what the concert will be, but they will still schedule a concert replay.

I usually set up Replay Radio to get one of them, regardless of what it will be, although I missed last week's replay. Then I don't have to worry about it. If you absolutely want to be sure you get a good copy of it, record all three and then compare. I usually set it up to start about 10 minutes early and allow at least 1/2 hour after, as they don't always start on time.

FYI, you can set it up to record a show well in advance (weeks, even), but your computer MUST be on and the program MUST be open (can be minimized) to start and record the show that day. The program will warn you if you turn it off and you have a recording scheduled.

Hope this helps.

I just downloaded the demo trial version of Replay Radio and have a question that I can't find an answer to in their FAQ: If you schedule a show to record, to you need to be "tuned in" to the URL from which you want to record?? For example, if I wanted to record a Tuesday show at 5pm, do I need to have Radio Margaritaville streaming at the time I want to record? Seems I can only get it to record if I have the show currently streaming...

Thanks for any help!

tuning in RM for Replay Radio

Post by RMM »

You do not need to tune in Radio Margaritaville separately yourself, (although that is an option if you really have to). I don't recommend it. Just follow the steps below in the program and it should work automatically once you've set it up (under a minute).

When you click on "Add Show", it asks for you to pick a show or a station. Click on "Pick A Station". Then you can either scan down or just type in "Radio Margaritaville" and then click "Find". It will highlight one of the three RM station options, MP3, Real or WMP (WAV).

I use the MP3 feed. I had trouble with the WMP/WAV feed. If you try the "Real" feed, let me know what you think. I couldn't tell any difference from the MP3 feed when I used it.

Then, once you've clicked "OK" to accept the station you chose, the program will take you to the "Scheduled Show Settings" window.

SUMMARY should come up first and should show "Radio Margaritaville MP3" highlighted in the window if you chose that station feed.

OUTPUT should be set to CD quality.

Make sure that you change the SCHEDULE to "Record Once", as it defaults to the "Repeating" option.

RECORDING should be set to "stereo mix".

I think TUNING will work with any of the options, but check to be sure. Mine is on "default". The URL that comes up is the one for the station you picked. Don't change it.

That's it. As long as your computer is on and the program is open, it should work automatically with no attention from you at all. Let me know if it doesn't. In fact, try closing the program after you set up a recording. You should get an error message warning you that it will not be able to record.

I find it very easy to use. It's set it and forget it once you've done it a few times.

BTW, if you decide to buy it ($30) and want to edit a concert, they also have an excellent editor called MP3 Magic. You can get a 7 day full use demo on it (as compared to the admittedly very limited demo of Replay Radio) and then it's only $10. I find it very easy to use, too, although I just "cut" tracks and haven't tried to do a "fade in and out" variation yet. It does let you get literally "momentary" cuts after a little practice. There are a few tricks I can show you to make it easier if you are interested.

Any more questions, let me know.

If I don't tune it to RM, I just get "dead air" and nothing I've tried (i.e. what's in the FAQ) seems to work....so I tune in and do a quick record, which works fine, but the sound seems kinda garbled/distorted....again nothing in the FAQ seems to change the output quality....any tips???

problems with Replay Radio

Post by RMM »

Are you tuning in through the program or separately? DO NOT tune in through RM separately and also have the program tune in when recording.

It sounds like a conflict of some sort. I'm afraid I don't know enough technically to help you. I'd just be stabbing in the dark, as I've been using Version 4.0 and haven't really shifted to 5.0 yet. I did open 5.0 today and recorded some of RM, which did sound somewhat garbled/distorted to me.

I recommend sending an e-mail to:

Tom Mayes <tom@replay-radio.com>

When I got Version 4.0 and had some problems, he was very quick to respond to my e-mails and help me. He even added two more RM feeds (MP3 and Real) when I had trouble with the WAV feed.

I would be interested in hearing his response. I just turned on Version 4.0 and am using it to record the replay and it sounds good right now (but 5.0 sounded good while it was recording earlier today, too).

Sorry I can't be more help. Tom should be able to.
