Serious question- What year was Jimmy the King of Mardi Gras?
(I'm doing a Mardi Gras theme trivia quiz for my PHC. I know, I know, questions are the EASY part!)
My love is staying an anchor tied to you with that silver chain.
For Clones, Sandra dressed to suit the krewe's annual theme, appearing as Barbie for "Barbie & Ken Go to the World's Fair" (part of Barbie's 25th birthday observance), Sandra Sexless (a send-up of the famous Bourbon Street burlesque queen, Sandra Sexton) for "Celebrity Tragedy," Darlene the Stripper for "A Confederacy of Dunces," and Marguerite DeVille (her king that year was Jimmy Buffett) for "Nuclear Disasters."
I had no idea this would be such a difficult question! We'll have to make sure the answer gets on Buffett timeline here!! You will be contributing to posterity!

......so I called the M'ville store in New Orleans. I nice lady there told me that he may have been king of one of the parades, but was not sure what year it would have been in. I can call back later today. Does that sound right? I could SWEAR I've read he was King of Mardi Gras. Now I'm cornfused.

The article said he was..... funny.... I was also going to call the Mville NO store....GPHMTA!
But no where can I find ANYTHING in the way of a list of past kings....

It was just a parade.
And he said on something it was the last year for that parade.
Well, if somebody feels like picking up the torch, I have to leave work shortly (still have things to get ready for PHC, but don't tell the boss! ), I'd appreciate it. I am really curious at least what year it was, if he wasn't "the" King. Heck, I'm just a Presbyterian girl from the country-I didn't realize there were different parades I guess....

Was he the King or the Grand Marshall of the Mardi Gras parade? I seem to remember it being the latter. I also vaguely recall reading about it in an issue of The Coconut Telegraph.
I believe the king of the Rex krewe is crowned the King of Mardi Gras.
In 1983 Jimmy was crowned King of the Krewe of Clones. If anyone has the Jimmy Buffett Scrapbook by Mark Humphrey, there is a picture of this on page 162.
I'm on top of the world, lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
You're love's put me at the top of the world

Ja, To save some time rummaging around the archives, can you remember which Coconut Telegraph it article was in?
Also, ToplessRider can you link to the article you found? Or at least point us to where you found it?
THANKS,
John
