vines question--why not just upload to FTP?
instead of vines, why not just upload shows to an FTP server such as ftp:jimmybuffett.servebeer.com? or to RapidShare or PutFile.com etc? Seems those solutions would be much more reliable and less confusing..any thoughts appreciated..

I agree with the uploading. I'm looking for the 4/20 Irivine show. It was an awesome concert to experience, and I want to re-live it...especially since folks are saying they got great recordings of it.
The FTP works nicely, as it doesn't have a size limit.
However, I'm assuming it takes longer to upload the flac/wav (lossless) files, rather than mp3.

Lossless files are bigger but that shouldn't be too much of an issue..and if they're mp3'd, the whole show shouldn't be over 120 MB all together.DeltOU wrote:I agree with the uploading. http://rapidshare.de/ and http://putfile.com/ (although not ftp) are fairly straight forward to use. If I get copies, I'll definitely upload them..

Another issue is that someone has to break the file down into tracks to make CDs. The show is too long for one CD.DeltOU wrote:I'm on the 4/20 Vine, but if users can download the flac files directly and put on cd, we can get this show out to the masses...and any other lossless quality shows for that matter.

I understand that. I'm just hoping that once they are cut into tracks, somone can zip them up and upload them to a share site, or individually to an FTP siteland_shark3 wrote:Another issue is that someone has to break the file down into tracks to make CDs. If I can get the discs, I'll upload them to share with people.

Theres also the option of creating BitTorrents for these shows. For those who arn't familiar it's basicaly a peer to peer network. Here's a link that will give you the basics.
http://www.dessent.net/btfaq/
If someone wants to send me copies of these I'll gladly track them out and either host the FTP or start the BitTorrent.

I've never created torrents myself, but have downloaded them tons of times. I'd be glad to help out and get this started when I get the shows.

Those sites have fairly low file size limits.. You'd probably have to end up uploading each song separately, and that would be a pain in the donkey.igator wrote:Lossless files are bigger but that shouldn't be too much of an issue..and if they're mp3'd, the whole show shouldn't be over 120 MB all together.DeltOU wrote:I agree with the uploading. Yeah, but if you zip it up before uploading, it reduces the size drastically.SharkOnLand wrote:Those sites have fairly low file size limits.. I know of a couple that allow up to 250 MB each..and Rapidshare allows for 100 MB each. If the whole show is split into songs (w/ mp3 conversion), the whole thing should not exceed 140 MB. Each song averages out at 4-to-5 MB each. Unless you want to keep them in AIF (uncompressed cd format) or Lossless where each song averages out to between 30-to-40 MB each. Either way, I can split labeled sets of descrete songs in 'packages' that will fit under any file size requirement. That's no problem.
