Cutting a CD into tracks

Post by drmutt »

I have a show burned onto a CD as an audio file. Does anyone know how to cut it into tracks and reburn it without losing sound quality? I tried using Cool Edit, but I had to convert to mp3 or a wave file first, and it appeared to lose some sound quality.

Do you have an audio recorder program on your PC?

Anytime you take a WAV, WMA, etc and convert it to mp3 you will always lose quality. Mp3's disgard what it perceives to be "excess". That is why mp3's are so small in file size. If you record in mp3, youre doing your music a severe injustice.

Let me know what kind of burning software you have or any recorder programs. I can possibly help you out with this.

I use an application named Audacity for my
editing
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/
it is free and might be what you need.

I myself use Goldwave for my more serious editing but if I just need to cut something down, I use my recorder's functions. I swear by Goldwave. But hey, everybody has their favorite.

Thanks. The only program I have is CoolEdit 2000. But I'll check out cdwav, Soundforge, or Goldwave. Are they easy to use?

Myself, I did find it incredibly easy to use.

Thanks guys. I successfully cut it into tracks using a free 30 day trial of Sound Forge. If anybody needs a copy of Uncasville, CT '06, let me know. Thanks again.

I am trying out SoundForge as well.
Do I manually have to cut and paste each track as a file or is there an easier way?

Also don't forget when burning a live show burn it DAO. That way you do not get 2 seconds of silence between each song. It is lousy to listen to a live show with that gap.

After loading in the whole show, I copied the song and then pasted it. I then saved it. Then I cut that segment. I did that till the whole show was cut into tracks. When I was finished I used Roxio to burn the CD DAO.
