The really old shows from the mid-to-late 70s are so different. I've been downloading anything from this era and giving them 'heavy rotation' on the iPod lately. It's very interesting to hear how things have changed, from Jimmy's singing style to backup singers to different band instruments/styles to Jimmy's changing/maturing lyrics and adlibs. My current favorites include the 1975 Boarding House and the 1978 Universal Amphitheatre shows. Some classic stuff from much earlier days.labatt1876 wrote:The shows from before about 2000 (before RM) are great. There are so many out there post-RM that have been recorded off the internet. But the pre-RM shows arent as common

I have been listening to the Central Park one quite a bit since I downloaded, hits close to home since I live outside NYC. Exactly what you were saying, his signing style, the band, everything is just different. He sounded more like a folk singer with his guitar and band back then, as opposed to the huge production he puts on today. Dont get me wrong, I go to as many concerts as I can, but seeing him as just an up and coming singer would have been fantasticlooking4OPH wrote:The really old shows from the mid-to-late 70s are so different. I'll give that one a listen. Although I was just in high school back in those days, it would have been something to experience the edgier, less-refined, less-corporatized Jimmy up-close and personal for sure. I too go to what I can now, but that would have been a whole different experience.labatt1876 wrote:Exactly what you were saying, his signing style, the band, everything is just different.
