Shh.. quietly making noise on SATURDAY @ the MSC
Early in the morning here in the Upper LH Corner. I gotta be quiet and not wake up the boss.
One of my very favorite Jimmy Buffett songs...
I don't know why this one didn't get more attention, it is a great song.
Quietly making noise - 1993
By: Jimmy Buffett and Michael Tschudin
Oscar Wilde died in bed
Several floors above my head
Living well beyond his means
In that crazy paris scene
Rain falls down in sheets so clear
And no one ever calls me hear
Travelin' by myself these days
I'm into jazz and felt berets
Far from that old eastern shore
Searchin' for strange metaphors
I don't want to be another victim of fashion
No I don't want to see my name in the paper each day
Hey you can leave that to the young turks
They're handsome and dashing
Posing for paparazzi's down laguna way
Now down in the metro I feel the world start to multiply
Bastille, rubber wheels, spiked heels
Subterranean lullaby
Met an african prancer, a hemisphere dancer
Spied the ghost of brassens
We smiled at the secret we shared
And I hid it like contraband
Quietly making noise (quietly making noise)
Starts with kindergarten toys
Not too soft, not too loud
Just enough to draw a crowd
Quietly, quietly, quietly making noise
Followed the beat
Hey I found myself in this patois spot
Outside a blizzard was blowin'
But inside the joint was hot
Zouk songs, rubber thongs, sing-a-longs
The words flew right by my face
You know rhythm and motion's a blamma jamma potion
You cannot erase
Quietly making noise (quietly making noise)
p***' off the old kill-joys
Glasspacks on an hot mustang
A telecaster with a twang
Quietly, quietly, quietly making noise
Yes
Singers and writers and poets
Have flocked here for centuries
The city of light is built upon mountains of memories
Baritone saxophones, monotones
Speak with a voice I've heard before
It's a lasting impression
A gypsy expression you cannot ignore
We're quietly making noise (quietly making noise)
Starts with kindergarten toys
Not too soft, not too loud
Just enough to draw a crowd
Quietly, quietly, quietly making noise
Yeah, we're quietly making noise (quietly making noise)
p***' off the old kill-joys
Not too soft, not too loud
Just enough to draw a crowd
We're quietly, quietly, quietly
Quietly, quietly, quietly
Quietly, quietly, quietly making noise
That's right, ooh yeah
A whole lot of beautiful noise
--spoken:
"oh come on children, play those, play those kindergarten toys.
Everybody's a drummer tonight. all right. let it ring now, let It ring."

Re: Shh.. quietly making noise on SATURDAY @ the MSC
Good morning Mr. SPH! You're up early today!
That's one of my favorite songs, too!
Today I'm going to go through cleaning products and toss what I don't use anymore, or what's close to being empty.. I'll have less under counter space with less room in the bathroom, and only one bathroom. Hopefully all I need will fit under the kitchen sink, and I can have space in the bathroom for towels and such. If I have any duplicates, then I'll leave them marked in the garage on shelves.
That's about it from here. I'm a bit sore and tired today. Didn't sleep goodly..
Have a good Saturday!!

Re: Shh.. quietly making noise on SATURDAY @ the MSC
Good morning and happy Saturday, everyone!
Love this song. Favorite show airs tonight, as usual, I hope! Recently got a baguette from Market Basket as well as a Lobstertail pastry from Mike's Pastry. Neighbor recently bought a bigfoot costume since his son is obsessed with it. He's going to have a relative dress up in it and surprise him when they go on a "hunt" for Bigfoot! A coworker of mine dug out a Grateful Dead banner from his garage and washed it and gifted it to me the other day

Re: Shh.. quietly making noise on SATURDAY @ the MSC
Good morning. We had a little rain to start the morning but we could use a lot more. We're in a drought.
According to the song database here at BN, they only played Quietly Making Noise live 18 times. I never heard it live, I missed it by one day. In 1993 Buffett played 2 shows at Jones Beach, Aug. 17 & 18. I went to the Aug. 17 show and it rained all night. He played Quietly Making Noise at the Aug. 18 show and there wasn't a drop of rain. I chose the Aug. 17 show because 1993-94 was my last year of law school and the fall semester started Aug. 19. I didn't want to go to the first day of class hungover.

So is Colorado... The ski resorts are all closing early, due to lack of snow. And the state already instituted no watering. It's been a while since we've been in this state, in this state..

Hi there! We took a ride and I shopped a little. A sport stoe chain called Dunhams had racks of bright printed shirts, but only a few tropical patterns. One had little T Rexs on it.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

A couple of years ago the Pelicans came up with a new alternate jersey, Pelisaurus Rex. It had a nice color scheme but the fake dinosaur was terrible, it looked like it was drawn by a 5 year old.bodypainter wrote: March 28, 2026 4:07 pm Hi there! We took a ride and I shopped a little. Good afternoon gang. Taking a break from the tax prep grind.
I recall back in the early 2000's when my Buffett music collection consisted of just a couple of Live Albums along with the Far Side of the World.
At that point I was HEAVY into the i-tunes pick & choose downloading so I put out to this board for recs on favorites tunes from the various albums.
From the Fruitcakes album, Garry pegged Quietly Making Noise as a fave. Upon the i-tune preview I was hooked. It's a staple on my i-pod Buffett "Rarities" playlist!
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Saturday Night Live!
Agree...the Rex just doesn't cut it........

Another great song and video, Mr.SPH... much appreciated, as always!
Our town has already announced the annual "water ban"
We've lived here for over 30 years now, and I cannot recall a year without one!
I'm glad for our well, so we are not affected... it is a PITA if we lose power, but thankfully that is rare.
Today was deceptively cold!!
It was so beautiful and sunny, I am glad I thought to check the temperature before heading out to a gathering on the town common! I was grateful I got my winter jacket back out of the closet!
There was also an open house (for contributors) at the Habitat for Humanity build near us. It has been amazing to see a beautiful old church morph into a family home. I am so glad the building is being preserved in this way!
Not much else going on...
I was disappointed by St. John's loss last night...
But at least now I will not have any divided loyalties... it's BOILER UP all the way from here on!![upyeah [smilie=upyeah.gif]](./images/smilies/upyeah.gif)

Re: Shh.. quietly making noise on SATURDAY @ the MSC
Hi Elaine! I don't have a team in the basketball playoffs that I care about.
I had windows open today, and it got fairly warm, so I turned on the A/C for a bit.
Cameron helped but take down stuff on the walls that I couldn't reach.
LOTS of dusty stuff, but I've always had Compressed Air in a can, so I could blow off cobwebs and dust off of things.
Including E's Fire Department helmet, and his Firefighter of the Year in Missouri...
Dumped off extra outdated OTC meds, and cleaning products I won't have room for, and they were at least 1/2 empty.

E was a firefighter (and apparently a very good one at that!) in Missouri??! The many things I am learning after his passing, the more impressed I am by his life...
I thought you had already purged the OTC and cleaners?! Or was that just from one of the baths? It seems a never-ending project. At least you will be done with it all soon!

Yep, it was in Warren County in Missouri. He lived there for several years, and was also a Paramedic and Ambulance driver.Caribbean Soul wrote: March 29, 2026 6:06 pm Including E's Fire Department helmet, and his Firefighter of the Year plaque in Missouri...

I found more cleaning stuff and meds.. I had some in our medicine cabinet, the extra bathroom cabinet, and cleaning stuff in both bathrooms AND under the kitchen sink.

My uncle was a Garden City, NY firefighter (which is on LI where they are all volunteers) and made it up to Chief when he passed young of heart failure. My "faux-cousin" (because his last name is my maiden name, and our families came from the same area in Germany, we always assumed some old-country connection
I dread the occasion I will need to clean out that stuff... I have a LOT of kitchen cabinets and 3 bathrooms full of stuff!
