I've Got My Hush-Puppies On Thursday @ the MSC

Post by SMLCHNG »

Good morning BN! :)

Not much going on here. My sister has a small cleaning company coming today, so I'll send the dogs outside with a bone, and close off their dog door. I'll hide in my sister's office.

That's about all from here..

Have a good Thursday!! :)

Good Morning Penny & everyone else who wanders in.

I've got chair yoga at 3:30 and that's about it. I think we will head to the pool soon since it's more convenient today.

Yesterday I had a return endocrinologist visit to go over my most recent thyroid blood work which seems to finally be back on track after up/down/all around for many months. I'm glad Kevin went with me....she is very concerned about my osteoporosis issue a I am in the severe range with 70% risk fracture rate in my left hip. Plus I broke those 2 bones in my wrist when I tripped over the 5" raised sidewalk outside the County Office back in 2022. All that coupled with my history of creating multiple little kidney stones she has ordered another a blood test on my "parathyroid glands".

What are the parathyroid glands you ask (or you don't really care)......

Your parathyroid glands are four pea-sized endocrine glands that are embedded within the back side of your thyroid. They produce and release parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone is responsible for controlling blood calcium levels. So....because blood calcium levels can affect bone strength and growth she wants to see what's going on there.

Anyway - just another day in the medical life of Linda which coincides with the Month of Linda :D

Good Morning Ladies!

I don't have my Hush Puppies on today but I am wearing a pair of similarly casual shoes, a pair of Sketchers that look something like this.
Ultra lightweight & very comfortable. Perfect for Casual Thursday!

Sorry to hear that your osteoporosis issue is not in a good spot Linda. Hopefully blood test results can give some guidance as to whether than
can offer something to help that situation.
On a happier note, the Pool sounds good for today anyway!

Enjoy your 3rd day of September everyone!

Good morning. I'm wearing my New Balance sneakers, not hush puppies. I did have a pair of hush puppies years ago, I think elementary school but it might have been junior high school, which I think is what they call middle school now.

Fall (meteorological or not) is in the air in the UpperLHCoarner, the furnace kicked on this morning for the first time in months, and it's raining for the second day in a row.
Good luck with your tests, Linda!Linda!Linda!, hopefully the rest of your month will have less medical time and more me time.
MsMod, don't wear your HushPuppies while harvesting dog turds!

Nope!! :D I have Sketchers on. They're like indoor/outdoor 'slippers', and they're good for my feet (past history of stress fractures) because they don't bend. :D But dang comfortable.

Thanks for the music (2)!! :D Glad you're getting some rain, tho.

My sister's patio thermometer says it's 100, but actual temp is 89, but humidity is only 15%. I'll send you some cooler weather, Larry. ;)

Happy International Cabernet Sauvignon Day!!!!!!!

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the happiest little accidents in all of viticulture. (with apologies to the late Bob Ross).

In Bordeaux around the late 17th century a vigneron accidentally crossed Cabernet Franc (a red variety) with Sauvignon (a white variety), the resultant freak grape became known as Cabernet Sauvignon and is now probably the most planted wine grape throughout the world.

It is the third most planted in Australia (57 of the 68 wine growing regions). It is believed that the world’s oldest productive Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted at Penfolds' Block 42 at Kalimna in the Barossa Valley. They were planted in 1888. This is less than a ten minute drive from where I am sitting.

Curiously, Australia has many of the oldest productive wine grape vines in the world via a quirk of history.

In the mid 1800's many grape varieties were brought to Australia to start producing wine for our European populations. Around 1873 the grape pest Phylloxera became an epidemic in Europe, destroying vast areas of vineyards to a point where it was feared wine production would become extinct.

Cuttings of the needed varieties were then sent from Australia to Europe—a bit of an off-site backup as it turns out. Some of the root stock that the cutting were grafted to came from California and Missouri as the vines there were found to be more resistant to Phylloxera.

Many of the vines that provided the cuttings to resurrect the vines in Europe are still in production. The wine from "old vine" vineyards is spectacular. The yields are lower but the flavour profiles are smoother, richer and more complex.

By far, my current favourite wine is Kalleske Old Vine Grenache. These are 90 year old vines which are producing an amazing, dark and fruit driven Grenache.

That signed cartoon is hanging in our garage on the "Parrothead Wall which is where the beer fridge stands. It is autographed by many BNers that went to that Hershey, PA (one & only visit) Labor Day show with us!!!! So many good memories about that weekend.

Feeling tired, then I got inspired

And I knew that it wouldn't last long

So all alone I walked back (to the village and had a glass at the Kalleske cellar door)
