Not to sound rude or anything, But I have not seen ONE person offer anything for a show, Just looks like everyone is looking for a free handout. Does this seem correct to anyone else too?

Not everyone has the technology or knowhow to trade... fortunately for us, some people are willing to offer other non-trade options to get us the shows we like.
Thank you 7lords, Senator Pullman, SCParrothead, etc! I'm eternally grateful!

If you notice the Alpine thread there is people willing to offer up goods.
I beleive they say send me a PM and we can work something out.
I personally brought about 10 copies of Alpine last year to the campground I stayed at this year to give to all the fine people I met last year and they were there this year.
How much does 50 discs cost? I got 150 of them at Best Buy for 2.50 per 50 after rebate. 20 cents per disc. That would be 40 cents per concert.
If somebody sent me postage I wouldn't complain at all.
It is all a hobby. If you think it is a pain that people do not offer up cash or ? maybe you should get on Ebay with all the other losers.

Its just a pain in the ass when you have 50 shows to get out, and are working over 50 hours a week, and people are bitching and complaining that you can tget them out within the hour they send them to you. Trust me THIS DOES HAPPEN.

I know your point gumby and I feel for you. Maybe you have just been taking on to much work. Limit your time and be selective on what you get.
I also burn DVD movies for my sons baseball games for his team mates.
If you think cd's take long try dvd's. Over and hour per plus I work and am Mr. mom to my 2 keets.
Don't get frustrated and don't let the winers get you down.

Well, here I go asking for a handout. I have NEVER been to a jimmy buffett show. I always seem to have bad timing. This year's show at Shoreline <mountain view, CA> is 2 weeks after I mive to NY. Sooo... if anyone could burn me a copy of any recent shows <last 3-4 yrs> i'd be happy to trade for blanks, or whatever else is reasonable. If not, I understand. But thanks for your time all the same.

I'm always willing to b&p, I've done it with The Beach is Open (which was excellent BTW). I enjoy the shows (quality control), make artwork and then I raffle them at our PHC meetings. I raffled off the Chapel Hill '88 and made $50 for Alzheimer's. B&ps are all I can do and if anyone is willing to do this PM me, it goes to a worthy cause.

Thanks FF
TBIO was jut way too much time consuming for us, and even though we sent out 100s of shows, it was getting to be too much of a hassle when people would complain when they didnt get their cds back in a week or two.

Gumby - I hear that - I may be new to the Buffet boards - but Im a long time veteran on trading, setting up trees and BnPs - the bottom line is that people should understand that we are hooking them up - which based on what your saying - people such as yourself and I dont mind to do - what they need to understand is that work and personal life come first - than this stuff - and usually I make it a point that trades will come before BnPs - bottom line- you should wait at the longest 4 weeks before you ask or complain about your discs - BTW - hi SirGumby - Im Jason.

Other options...
We could always do conventional trees (branches, leaves, etc) just like other bands (Phish, Dead, DMB, etc.). Instead of having one person doing all the B&P's, it could be spread out to branches to lighten the load. I don't think that there would have to be strict rules (what burning software to use), since the concert is being broadcast in a low kbps. But I guess there would have to be some (burining DAO instead of TAO) just so things won't get out of hand. Of course there will have to be some organizing, etc., but I think it would be worth it.
And to get the shows to the branches faster, if the person with the show has high speed and so does the branches, there are programs that will do the trick.
Direct Connect, Furthur, Bit Torrent, etc. are all viable options...
Of course the seeder would want to encode the .wav files to .shn's for faster transfer to the branches...but I guess it is up in the air for how to encode the files to transfer. I know that the rm stream is approx 50 kbps, and it may be worth while to try other formats (.mp3, ogg vorbis, monkey audio). But I'm wondering when the branches decode the .mp3 -> .wav will cause more deadrigation (sp?) to the concert...anyways, enough rambling...
Also, has there been any discussion (or experimentation) to try and clean up the rm concerts?
If there is any interest to this tree idea...let me know...

Hey Matt - we ever trade or work together before? Your SN sounds farmiliar. Anyways - Trees are always a great Idea - having run tons of them for DMB and Phish - I love to do such things - you also dont need to have a high speed to get it to the branches - usually what Id do its just send out the show to the branches to get it going faster and than work out something later. I have a friend who runs a Bit Torrent web site - which I love - so we can always work it out that way also. However - he is kinda leary about hosting a show since its already so compressed on the stream - he likes to promote non lossy shows.
In answer to your MP3/WAV/SHN debate - although it comes in at 50 which is already a MP3 type file - its definatly NOT advisable to compress it AGAIN by turing it into an MP3 for those that are trying to stay within the less lossy catagory such as myself. It will only hurt the file even more. If you SHN the WAV - its the best way to preserve it and keep it as close to the original stream for uploading/dloading content. However - for all intese and purposes - most people will just encode it to MP3 for faster sharing. Hopefully, people will be kind enough to tell others if they did such a thing.
Hope I didnt confuse the s*** out of you even more! LOL.

Yea, I think we did a trade a long time ago...
I've been out of trading for a little while, but use to frequent astb, am.org, osw...
I'd be interested in doing the tree idea...and yea, I had the same thoughts as to encoding to shn. I figured since there is a high demand for some shows (i.e. Alpine) it would be a quicker way to send them out...
I understand ya about the mp3 compression thing also...do you know of anyone that tried to clean up a rm stream or if it is possible?

I think the tough part is finding shows that the people who do most of the trading don't already have. Its unfortunate that there are those that complain about being helped out, but thats the way the world is unfortunately. I've done b&p for a couple of shows from The Beach Is Open and it was a great experience. However, I don't have anything to offer back as the site has everything I've seen. I can also feel for those w/o the equipment to do it, a week before I moved into my new place with a cable modem, my computer was fried by lightning. *&#( Happens I guess.
Anyways, for those that have a smaller collection and would like to trade, I need Bristow, VA from 7/5/03.
I have Raleigh 2/03, Gboro 4/02, Exit Inn 1974, KSAN Radio 1974, Lake Lanier, GA 10/82, Dallas 4/2000, Millenium Concert, East Hampton 11/2000, Peet's 80th B-day Show 10/2001, Barometer Soup Radio Special 1995, Margaritaville Orlando Grand Opening, 3/1999.
I'll also do the B&P and send a couple of extra CD-R's to help out with recorder's collection. PM me or email at jwbates@charlotte.uncc.edu.
Thanks!
