If you want to make the site partial credits, go for it. There are a few issues with credits. Depending upon the FTP server, some do credits by session, others do it by IP. If someone loses the session, they will lose the credits. Thats hard for anyone to take who just spent several hours uploading a show, then losing the connection. Personally, I am a fan of giving uploaders leech access, at least for a period of time. However, you will hit a wall fairly shortly. Seeing as how there aren't an insane number of Buffet bootlegs out (short of the RM shows), you will shortly hit a wall of users who don't have shows that you need. The rest (non uploaders), if you want to limit the choices, it makes sense. I would definately keep a few shows for free though. I like the thought of having like 4 free shows, one changes every week. It gives people a month to get a show, which should be enough time, but also rotates the shares allowing newbies to grow their collection. I would do newer shows since older shows are available on a web site. (The exact name forgets me, but he had a legal issue a few years back about sharing new shows)
My two cents.

I've been trying to get on for almost an hour and a half and it keeps saying too many users..good job on the site though..theres alot of good concerts on there

Hey peeps...just a quick note. First off, thanks to those of you who have uploaded shows, there are a handful of you who have sent several. Second, as most of you notice, the site is usually pretty busy. I've been giving permanent logins to those who have been uploading that allow them access regardless of the user count on the server. They deserve it. I'm going to extend this offer to all, if you wish to trade shows and have access at any time, PM me and we can work out the details. However, this is only if you have shows to trade, uploading WILL be required.
Also, due to some peoples excessive leaching, I've been considering making it a credited site. Meaning to download X amount of info, you have to upload X amount to earn 'credit'. I'd love to hear some feedback on this. My initial thoughts was to leave a handfull of recent shows as 'freebies' that anyone can download regardless of credit and if you want more then you'd have to upload. Of course, the uploads need to be A) something I don't have and B) Something I'd want.
So...send me your thoughts, ideas, feedback, etc.

just a thought. You could leave it the way it is, but only allow people to download X amount in a sitting, like one concert, or half of one. That way they would get booted, and have to fight to get back in like all the other people who are waiting. You wouldn't have people camping out on your FTP and downloading the entire directory. You'd still have leachers, but they would have to be pretty determined (or have very little to do with their time) to really be a problem.

do the leachers have very slow connections, like 56K? Cuz the maybe a time restraint would be better. It would penalize those with slow connections.....but it would open up the FTP for those who could make better use of the connection. I dunno.

You both make good valid points...thanks for the input. I'll leave it as is for now as I kick it around a bit more.
Side note...I had a power outage here last night (read: big party and someone tripped the breakers while making Marg's with the blender, microwave, stereo etc all on the same circuit...lol) so the IP addy of the site changed this morning. It is now:
IP Hostname - captainmorgan.servebeer.com

I don't think Captain has the ftp site up on the same ip address, so you should email him and ask what the address is. If the trouble you are having is getting the filezilla installer, and installing it, I can help with that.
Here's the direct download link, when you click on it just save the file to your desktop.
http://umn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourcefor ... _setup.exe
after that, go through the installation steps, they're pretty simple. You probably don't need the "more secure" setting, all that does is erase your passwords every time you close the program. And I don't know the difference between the XML thing and the registry, but I have it set up with the registry.
Then, once you've got it installed, copy and paste the ip address Captain posted into the address field in the upper part of filezilla, and click connect. Should work. Good luck.

yeah you still can use filezilla (or any other FTP client), instead of putting the IP address in the "address" field of filezilla, you put captainmorgan.servebeer.com
Then for your username type in anonymous, and for your password you type in your email address. Quite Slick, I'll have to get a few more shows to ya Kev

I've tried, but I still can't get it to work

! I'm confused - how does the server accept my e-mail address as the password? I have more than one e-mail address, is it looking for the one which I used when I registered with BN?

whatever problem you are having is not due to your email address, I promise you. PM me what you are doing, and what isn't working and I'll try to help you.

No worries, I figured you went through all the work of getting a domain name, so I'd try to help out with the FTP stuff. It's one of the few computer things I can actually help with

I'm getting the "too many users" error with the anon accounts, so I think you just have to be patient and try to log on during a less popular time (evenings, mornings etc). Good luck!

it is up and running though, so that should be the only error, and I assume people are downloading.

Unfortunately I just discovered this site and am having some issues.
When I access the site using FileZilla, it tells me that the Directory Listing is empty. I am new to FileZilla so I just may be missing using it.
Is there something else I need to do or has the site been taken down?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
