Good morning Penny and all who wander in to the MSC/Bama Breeze today! Or the FloraBama.

It was absolutely humid and sweltering when I hopped out of bed this morning. The blog's been picking up in traffic since the early summer slump, which is nice. It's always riveting trying to find out what's affecting viewership numbers and whatnot. Rain, maybe more digital; sunny and nice, everyone's outside; Friday, everyone's out late; back to winter, everyone's indoors...

Not sure what the later part of the days entails. Weather is supposed to sunny up later & be warm (lower 80's).

Good afternoon. Another day with a heat index of 100+.

I heard the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes is getting some grief on social media. When the names of the players, coaching staff and front office people were engraved on the Stanley Cup, the owner included his wife and kids names. They had 3 defensemen who missed time with injuries and a rookie defenseman played 38 games filling in for the injured players. You have to play a minimum of 41 games (half the season) to qualify for getting your name engraved on the Cup but the team can petition the league to have someone who plays less than 41 games added to the list. I think the rookie with 38 games played deserves to have his name on the Cup instead of the owner's wife and kids.

Kevin and I are sitting at the Hyundai dealer getting the newest (free) antitheft software update installed. They have an awesome waiting room which makes what seems like wasted time somewhat bearable. I’m sure they will come back with a list of “suggestions”. But it’s a 2019 with 73,000 miles so we don’t do much more than we feel necessary.

The heat index will be waaaay too high for us to do anything. Not even sure about a pool visit.

I did get a yoga session in this morning. Always feel better afterwards.

Our local independent garage was having a "Summer Special Oil Change" deal and so we took MrsSPH's car in for an oil change a couple of weeks ago and after taking care of most of the "suggestions", the bill came to $4,293! The car only has 36,000 miles on it, but it's a 2015 and it needed a bunck of time related maintenance. The hoses and belts were getting brittle and it was just time to replace them. The transmission and front and rear differentials are supposed to be serviced every six years and the brake system is supposed to be done every two years. The front Sway Bar links were getting hard and brittle and starting to crack and so it was their time. The battery was about five years beyond its normal service life and was starting to be a problem, so it was due too. The only suggestion I didn't follow was replacing the spark plugs (for another $1K+).... yeah, I know they recommend replacing them after 10 years, but I'm gonna wait until the car indicates that they need replacing. Everything that was done really needed to be done, but still.....
Between time-related maintenance issues with both the house and the car, I can kinda see why it might make sense to move every five or six years and maybe get a new car every three or four. We've been in our house for almost 28 years (after 17 in the last one) and my "new" car is 7 years old. I know we're not gonna move, so I guess I oughta go look a cars.....

Remarkably the free 32 point car check didn't show anything.

However, we did meet a nice sales guy who, when we told him we were there for another anti-theft federally required "patch" he asked if we were interested in talking about a new Hyundai. We have a 2019 and he guess it had about 90,000 on it....WRONG -- we just hit 73,000 this week. He reminded us of our 100,000 mile warranty. We laughed and said it took us 7 yrs to get to 73,000. Anyway, the new ones are actually less than we expected and there's 60 months interest free financing so.......we may revisit that at some point. We looked at a bunch and can get a new one for $34,000 which we didn't think was too bad. BUT and this is a big one for me -- I DON'T WANT LEATHER SEATS.....and everyone we looked at had them.

I only had leather seats in one car, I had that car for 14 years. I didn't mind leather but I find cloth upholstery more comfortable. The deal breaker for me is black upholstery, too hot here in the summer for black seats.

Because of the heat and the rain and the mud and the dust and dog hair that we have here in Oz, we have a thing called "car seat covers" that make leather/vinyl/polyester seats far more comfortable and protect the original seat material.

For you who live in snow(!) lambs wool covers would be terrific!

Ha! I got cheap seat covers that didn't fit well, so I gave up on them in a busy time in life. My driver seat is permantly stained, but the car is worth so little, it's a moot point.

I much prefer leather seats. I learned back in our child rearing days that drool, slobber, melting ice cream cones, and gawd knows what other liquids clean up much better in leather vs. cloth upholstery. I don't know if cloth was even available in our last few cars.

Wow! I am the exact opposite!! I won't even consider a car that does not have them!!
To me, they are much more comfortable than fabric, and SO much easier to clean if anything spills. I don't worry about that spillage thing too much anymore now that I am not toting kids around... but it sure helped then!

The seats on my new car is kinda nylon'ish. And there's some black on the sides of the seats, but silver'y on the actual seat.
