Like a few others we are dealing with super high heat indexes here. I'm off to the blood sucker at 9:30 for another thyroid draw. After that we have nothing on the schedule -- Kevin will check the wind direction before we decide if we'll maybe go to the beach. If the wind comes from the land it brings biting flies.....they are tiny but mighty. Kevin is bait so that means I usually escape their madness. We have spray but need to use ALOT to keep them at bay.
School starts tomorrow so thank goodness that will keep the neighbor "rats" away for part of the day.

Slept in until 7:00 this morning, as I was up late (for me) visiting with a girlfriend (she used to live next door to me at the old apartment). Had a LOT of laughs.
I just noticed that I missed a spot on one of the mirrors I washed yesterday.
Otherwise nothing going on here. Temps climbing to 90'ish again.

I just got an email from the Carolina Opry, I've been to a few concerts there so I'm on the mailing list. Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits is going to be there. In October of 2027. I don't need 14 months warning for a Peter Noone concert. I don't need 14 minutes warning for a Peter Noone concert.

And I stand corrected... I went to see Lionel Richie a few weeks ago, and he's 77. And Philip Bailey of EWF is 75. Both still sounded pretty darn good.

Some vocal ranges hold up better than others! People tend to sing in lower keys as they age for a reason!
I'm about to head out to get together with the groups of ladies I had worked with... which will be fun!
Our old boss is hosting at her home, as she has been doing once a summer for a while now. It's been a year since I've seen some of the women, as several no longer live in the area!

I lied about doing nothing today. I went to the gas station, then I went out for lunch and had tacos and a couple of cold beverages. After that I went to the mall to get my daily walk in, the temperature is in the 90s and the heat index is 109 so I wasn't going to the park. On the way home I stopped at Total Wine to replenish my beer supply, I only had 4 left.

Hi there! My outboard jet engined sucked up weeds, plugging it off and stopping any thrust. I drifted 100 yards downstream to shallow water, got in the river and pulled out the weeds. Getting into a boat is a young man's game, but I made it.

I may have told this story before. Many years ago, when I was 10 foot tall and bulletproof we were doing some rescue training off Manly Beach in Sydney. One of the crew would jump overboard and the boat would do a big loop and run past and do the pick up on the run (long story short it was actually easier to pull someone on board while the boat was moving).
On this day the driver decided to prank the crewman by doing a big run into the surf to jump some waves and we left the crew floating for about 15 minutes.
When we got back, he was laying on his back with arms and legs out of the water. There was a school of sharks under him. We picked him up at speed while he shouted abuse No sooner had we got him on the boat, we picked up a big plastic bag in the jet intake stopping the boat dead in the water.
As the most junior (and so most expendable) it was decided I needed to go under the boat to clear the intake.
I dived under the boat, grabbed the bag and got back on board so quick, I swear my hair didn't get wet...

It's funny how these things go around.
A few days ago I reposted a throw away film clip I had found on facebook that spoke about the need to occasionally and deliberately scare the bejeezus out of yourself. A good mate from our school/rescue boats/rescue helicopter/fire brigade days responded that it is true we need it. I am just sad that as we become adults with responsibilities and then as we age the opportunities to do so are reduced.
I have done some exciting, dangerous and, let's face it, dumb things and I would love to do some more of them but the old body keeps saying no...
I saw a cartoon once, that had the caption "I wish young me had thought of old me before I did all that dumb stuff"! It kinda sums up why I am sitting here with a heat pack on my shoulder...
