Up at 4:00 am here to take my sister and BIL to the airport. First time I've driven my new car in the dark, and my eyes behaved.

Not planning on anything except filling bird feeders, and picking up poop.

College Football kicks off fully this upcoming weekend. Color me pleased
As I often do I'm perusing the Schedules to see if there are any "Roadtrips" not involving my fav team (Michigan Wolverines) that would be viable to do this year. Haven't been anywhere since 2023 at Mississippi. Prefer to go somewhere I haven't been to prior. Some options I'm looking at are during the 2nd weekend in October: Saturday games USC @ Penn State, Georgia @ Alabama, Tulane @ Army, Arizona @ West Virginia & LSU @ Kentucky. Friday night Florida State plays @ Louisville so I could possibly pair that up with the Saturday trip to Lexington for the UK game Last couple weekends in October may be a possibility also but the 2nd weekend in October Michigan doesn't play so that could be ideal.
I know this isn't the most sporty college football group here but any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Sorry, Ken. I'm not much help here. I only followed Oklahoma State because of E. I was never a college sports team follower, until he came along.

Good morning. It's supposed to be a hot one, heat index over 100 again. When I was in Tulsa last week the high temperature was at least 95 degrees every day but it didn't feel as bad as 85 here, less humidity.

Ken, I don't know what the quality of the football would be like, but maybe Tulane at Army. West Point is a beautiful campus. There's a hotel there, it's either on campus or just outside the main entrance (it's more than 40 years since I was there, my memory is a little fuzzy), the Hotel Thayer. But it would probably be tough to get a room on a football weekend. One drawback is it's a really small town, there isn't a lot to do in the area.

Part of my allure is indeed from what I've heard that Autumn on the Hudson can be beautiful. Of course whether or not the fall colors are
peaking is a crapshoot. May be a bit early.
Of course it would pretty much be a zip & zip out trip. Friday to Sunday

Both Oklahoma schools kind of have my interest. Okie State falling off the map competitively more recently kind of puts a damper on a trip to Stillwater but you never know

I'm at Yee-Haw Brewing, I haven't been here since the day they opened back in May. They didn't do flights back then, they do now. I'm on my second 4oz. pour and I'm not impressed. I don't know if this place will make it into my regular rotation of local breweries. It's too bad because it's a beautiful facility on the (man made) lake at Broadway At The Beach.

I am not ready to think college football. I am still holding on to every ounce of summer. Glad today’s work day is over. Got some things done and some things off the to do list. Now I want to do nothing but sit near the fan. A flight of beer sounds enticing—maybe I will mosey to Tenacity or Redline to see what they have on tap. Or maybe I will toss on pj’s and pretend I am retired

Please forgive my ignorance, and I know there many things about what you mob call football that I cannot fathom, so to this outsider it seems weird but why is "college football" such a big thing?

It seems to be odd that a second tier competition, I assume played by college "students" (yes I get they aren't there for their academic prowess) is so popular and has what looks like a large following.

What am I missing?

I have many other questions that I couldn't resolve even when sitting in bars during 'footy' season in Florida (well, it was Key West, so it was Florida adjacent) with helpful locals.

I hear ya, Penny! I do remember watching Saturday games with my Dad - especially Army-Navy! But my college was not competitive in the big 2- football & basketball (we did well in soccer & lacrosse) at all. Jim went to St. John's when the Redmen did well in basketball back in the Carneseca era, so that was about it. That was it until my son went off to Purdue, and college football (and basketball, too) held my interest. My daughter went to McGill, so for her it was following collegiate hockey, which was a pretty big thing here in New England anyway!

Ken - I do agree with Larry that the West Point campus is pretty cool to see. My HS did a road trip to see an Army game once, and I remember being awed by it!

Bill - I do NOT remember the whole Brylcreem jingle... but I gotta say that running my fingers through greasy hair is most definitely NOT appealing!

Larry - I saw your response to my Golden Knights question yesterday. I'm glad you only had to extend your trip by a day to keep your hockey streak going... even if it is a "repeat" team, it still counts!

I did a online search, and this says it the best, I think. And the NFL only has 32 teams, while there are hundreds of College teams.
