National Bologna Day slices its way onto the calendar every October 24. This day celebrates the beloved processed luncheon meat that has graced countless sandwiches and school lunchboxes for decades. Grab a pack, fry up a slice, or build your ultimate bologna sandwich to join the tasty festivities!
I have been a fan of bologna since I was a kid. That's what was almost always in my lunches that Mom made. Almost always with ketchup and mustard. Occasionally I had fried bologna, but usually on weekends. My father and grandfather loved it that way, too. When I'm hungry for breakfast, I'll fry it with an egg and cheese.
I understand a lot of people don't care for it, but I definitely have.
An aunt of mine is having a grand opening ceremony for her optometry clinic, so I am driving with some more family there. I am hoping they have big scissors for the event! We are going to leave around 1130 ET, just in time for RM's Buffett Buffet
Jerry...from Massachusetts. I'd like to go where it's warm!
It's a beautiful day in our neighborhood (you're now humming/singing that wonder Mr. Rogers theme song aren't you?). Bright skies, light breeze with a current temp of 65 (high of 72 coming later). Since we have nothing going on today we may take a beach run later even if it's just to walk on the pier and boardwalk.
I pulled out the ingredients to make a pot of the copy cat recipe of Olive Garden's Zuppa Tuscana soup.
As far as bologna goes we are lovers of the Sweet Bologna taste. It's a somewhat textured dark colored bologna which is a staple at most grocery stores we used to frequent. There doesn't seem to be anything like that down here.
Linda, I had to look up "Sweet Bologna" and most references call it Lebanon Bologna, and it appears to be smoked. I saw that Boars Head carries one brand, and so does Amazon!
Just another day of autumn yard clean-up here, raking leaves and pulling annuals out of the beds and such. Things are really starting to die back as the daily temperatures decline. I never ran into any apple-cider donuts yesterday, but I did have an encounter with a really good carrot cake cupcake.
I loved bologna when I was a kid but haven't had it in years. And yes, it had to be O-S-C-A-R M-A-Y-E-R.
I may not be able to party like I used to, but if I take a nap, I can usually stay up ‘til dark....

Good evening. Penny, funny you mentioned ketchup on bologna sandwich. I’m a ketchup fanatic & will put it on all kinds of crazy things, but have never put it on bologna. As a kid used mayo, as an adult strictly mustard. Nowadays I try to get turkey bologna….
Beautiful day here, got a nice walk in at a local park.
Good football on today, unfortunately not for my Wolverines against Indiana. Their offense is a mess despite having good defense. But as a lover of football I enjoy many of the other battles going on today. Couple top ten upsets already. Could be more to come.
Checking out for now.
Corona by day, Corona by night, any old time is just alright!
The only bologna I ever liked was Boar's Head narrow bologna.
But after 3 different safety recalls on various Boar's Head products, I won't eat anything Boar's Head again. In fact, I won't even patronize a deli where their products are sold, as I don't want whatever other brand I buy being cut on a possibly contaminated slicer!
