Buffett News Server

With all the charity work BN does, it's time we donate money to a cause that would benifit US. I suggest we donate money and have BuffettNews set up a FTP server and let people upload all their concerts onto that server, whatever format would work - ogg, mp3, shn, flac - that way people can download the concerts they were at, complete their collection, or find that special concert for their special someone.

It might be somewhat expensive, but I am sure that it could be obtainable, maybe some people could donate money for the bandwidth, others for storage....

What do you guys think of this idea?

Only thing I see wrong with this is GIVING AWAY SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. I have a very hard, hard time giving away a show I worked for or that I spent time recording myself and just giving it away with out getting any thing in return. Aint this America, where you WORK for what you RECIEVE????

I think it just might get BuffettNews in some hot water with Jimmy's legal-eagles too ... ~especially~ now that Mailboat is selling the concerts.

Anything of this nature should first be run by PHJim. DazedNiteman, I think this idea is worth pursuing. Can't hurt to ask, can it? Why don't you (DNM) send PHHim a PM and ask about it, then follow up on this thread with his reply.

Sorry, the answer is NO. I don't want to deal with the legal /copyright issues that are involved. And the cost is to expensive anyway.

oh well, it was worth a try. For the legal stuff, you could always just send RM an email asking them what they allow. Of course the stuff they release on cd can't be sold, that's obvious. But like the older stuff should be allowed. But if you guys think it'd be too much then I guess not.

If PHJim says it's too much for his website, it's too much.

Concerts use up a lot of space, and like Jim said it would be quite expensive to host that much space and the bandwidth needed would be insane. I'm sure it's probably already insane with how active this board is

maybe it'd be easier if there would be private servers, not associated with BN, maybe some Bit Torrents - I recently downloaded some JB Bit torrents from the 70s and 80s - this works great because everyone helps out with the bandwidth. If you are not familiar with BT read up on it.

I find some irony in the fact that the person suggesting a concert server has his avatar hosted on tripod :)

This is a great idea, but not really feasible. I don't know much about bittorrent, but I've found some excellent concerts through the P2P programs, you gotta just know which ones to surf.

And didn't Gumby used to run that JB website where you could trade concerts? I thought that was him.....anyway. I know it got shut down because of abuse.

Drunken: I don't have a website or any reason to buy web storage at this moment in time so Tripod was the first thing I though of. lol sometimes it is there sometimes it is not.

I did talk to Gumby a lot... Maybe he will still work something out

Steve----with the amount of hours I am working, and trying to have a social life----i highly doubt anytime soon I will be giving away shows soon. Maybe if people want to send me money so I dont have to work as much... Then I may be willing to do that, but since thats Illegal, I highly doubt that willl happen

Just messing with ya man. By the way, you can upload any (reasonably sized and of reasonable taste) picture to the BN photo gallery and then just link them as your avatar. At least, I think that's what it's threre for. Someone let me know if it is otherwise.

And if you need a show, there are plenty of people on this site that will be happy to B&P it for you. Just post a request.
