In case, anyone has questions about how a vine works, see this link on the Sharing the Groove forums:

http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboar ... adid=26212

This will explain vines.

Here's a quick summary:

1) Receive the master copy of the concert in the mail. (for Buffett shows, it'll be a certain number of audio discs. The .shn and .flac formats don't seem to be used much on the buffettnews.com forums, so don't worry about them until you encounter them.)

2) Update the vine by inserting the date you received the show, so people know what's going on.

2) Make a copy of the discs you receive (burn them or rip them, whatever)

3) Put the master discs into a new (preferrably) bubblewrap-lined envelope which you can buy at the post office. This link (http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/) will explain why bubblewrap-lined envelopes work well, plus will explain another type of concert trading, the infamous B&P, which is NOT what we're doing here.

4) Address the envelope with the mailing address of the person below you on the vine list. In order to get this mailing address, you will need to be communicating with the person below you. However, it is the person below you's responsibility to email you their address, or else they will be holding up the vine process. And that is very shameful, very shameful.

5) After you've mailed the master discs out, update the vine again with the date you mailed the discs out. Try to receive and send the master discs within a maximum 3-day window.

6) Verify that the person below you on the vine received the master discs.

I think that about sums it up. Obviously, this forum isn't as hard-core as the Sharing the Groove trading forums, so don't let their rules and explanations intimidate you. If we were dealing with shows that possessed better quality than just being taped off RadioMargaritaville's webcast, maybe it would be more important to adhere to stricter rules and standards. However, you should still try to receive the show, copy it, and then send it on in a timely fashion.

Sent out show this morning...technical glitch regarding "incommunicado" on the "coconut telegraph." That's a little parrothead jibe for you. Also, no blame on the part of fins_up99.

As an added bonus, I've included Jones Beach, NY - 08-29-2000 with the Denver 2004 show. I figure every parrothead will appreciate a concert from the 2000 tour. So 4 discs will be going down the vine.

The discs plus the smallest bubblewrap envelope weighed 3.2 ounces, so plan on paying for 4 ounces for postage. If you already have the bonus show, I apologize for the added postage you'll be paying when you send the discs to the next person. The vine karma will come back to you.

FYI, here's an interesting tidbit about the post office cost:
2 ounces or less = $.60
3 ounces or less ~ $.85
4 ounces or less = $1.06

The bubblewrap envelope I buy costs $1.29. I'm hoping to go to Staples soon to buy a bulk amount of bubblewrap envelopes, seeing that they'll probably be cheaper than buying directly from "the man." Enjoy the shows.
