Can someone please help me with downloading and using torrent files? I am not a idiot, (well usually not) and I can't get the damn thing to work. I couldn't find the torrent player on the site, so I went to bit torrent.com and downloaded it, but when I try and open the the file I get an error message saying

"Buffett2005-06-22.flac" : Aborting the torrent as it was rejected by the tracker while not connected to any peers. Message from the tracker: Not authorized (7h) - READ THE FAQ! http://torrentmatrix.com

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I think I am an idiot too. Downloaded the file, tried to get something to play it, but no luck. What is the easiest client/program to get to play torrent files? Help! I need this show--it was my birthday!!!

The torrent file itself does not play, it is really just a link to the torrent.
You need to get an application to download the torrent. I recommend
using an app. named Azureus
you can find it here
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
after you have installed Azureus or whatever program you decide to use,
then go http://torrentmatrix.com and download the torrent file. Start your torrent app. and then go to file>open>torrent file. Select the torrent file that you downloaded and then select a destination where you are going to have it on your hard drive. You should see it start to connect and download if there are any seeders.
I think that you may have to register at torrentmatrix before you can download anything.
After you have donloaded the flac files you will most likely want to convert them to .wav or mp3 files.
If you are on a PC here are a couple of programs for converting and playing the files
http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

I have heard good things about the dbpoweramp

If you are on a Mac you will want to get an app. named xACT

Matty: the message that you got means that because you are a new member or have a low share ratio, the site makes you wait a set period before you can have access to any new torrent that has been uploaded.
You can find out more about this by reading through the FAQ at the site.

I hope this helps. If you need more help, feel free to ask and I will try and help you.

hawaiiboy,

Thank you so much for trying, but I am still completely lost. I am doing everything you wrote, but am still running into roadblocks. I want to know how this stuff works, so if you could go over it again for me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks again...

What are seeders and why do I need them? It says I have no seeders...is this why nothing is downloading? Also, for the dbpoweramp music converter, it says it cant find any of the files to convert....argghhhh. I have no idea why this is so confusing...

Seeders are people who have the whole file and are sharing it. Right now there is nobody seeding the show. The 2 people who have downloaded it so far have just left without sharing with anybody. Until somebody comes along and starts to seed again there will be nothing happening.

The reason that the dbpoweramp is doing this is that so far you have not downloaded any .flac files so there is nothing to convert. Only after you have downloaded the whole show, then you can convert it

Have a read through here, maybe this will help explain how it works better than I can

GGGRRR...this is driving me nuts! Why can't I do this? I followed all your directions. I'm all set with finding the torrent, opening my torrent app, downloading the files...so they get saved as flac files? I tried one of the conversion programs, but it won't open what I have saved...WTH????

I'll be more than happy to help you out if you can send me what you have? You can send it via AIM or send this file. (i'll convert it for you) I can't get the torrant to work since no one is currently seeding this show.

We really should explain more of how torrants work ...it's almost as bad as a vine killer to download a torraent and not seed it!

For those who have been patient, I say thank you. I am just starting out in computer school, and not figuring this stuff out is a blow to the ego hahaha. So again, I say thank you. And for Christ's sake, will a friggin seeder appear!??!?!?!?!?!!

I too am waiting patiently for a seeder.

Matty, I sympathize with you, as I knew nothing about torrents and the like. Just happened to teach myself all about them in time. It helps if you read the FAQ's and a little experimentation.

Just a little patience is all...

And it is a lot less messy than disecting a gastrointenstinal tract :pirate:

I'm in the process of uploading...but I need seeders, not leechers...that's why I pulled it off (in the process). If you are going to d/l I just you need to contribute and seed, if not...don't d/l the torrent. Pretty simple.

I'll seed for ya pablo... I'll even be dumb enough to start a vine so the newbies won't flood the ratio so badly... that is if you want?
