studio tracks-mp3 Files?

Post by Spikeit »

Sorry if I sound ignorant on the subject, but I am unfortunately. I finally got with the program and got an mp3 player and was hoping to find a place that had all the albums (or at least a vast majority) available for free like @ the ftp site ftp://jimmybuffett.servebeer.com/

I like the live shows there, but would also love studio cuts as well...

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

You can "rip" or copy your Buffett cd's with any burning software or various media players. You can also download Jimmy's studio cuts from iTunes. Making Jimmy's albums available for free is illegal and certainly not condoned by Buffett fans.

Jimmy broadcasts his shows live-for free on RM and Sirius. It is legal to trade those show but illegal to sell them. Anytime you "cut" an artist out of a sale, you are taking money out of their pocket...some call it stealing.

I guess I was thinking more of like an ftp between BN'ers...not readily available for all to swipe...nonetheless, I see your point.

Anywhoo...I just figured out that you can rip a cd from windows media player, so I am good (except for the time to do it to all my disks....guess I am not getting any work done today!!!

Ripping doesnt take too much time at all. Yu can stick a cd in your drive and it will be done in 5 minutes at a s-l-o-w speed. It's the best way to go. :pirate:

Hey, if you have iTunes, it's extremely simple to rip your cd's into mp3's, also. Piece of cake.

I was wondering what kind of mp3 player you got. I figured if it was an iPod you'd have dropped the name. Ripping from disc to mp3 is rather simple and fast.

I added five Jimmy albums this weekend that I received from Barnes & Noble (the other BN). My collection is almost complete. I think I've only got 5-10 studio tracks to go....not bragging, just darned excited, that's all. [smilie=happydance.gif]

I set up a playlist on my iPod to match the studio tracks with live versions of the songs. Some of them aren't very good quality, they're real bootlegs from the days of audience recordings, but I have 220 studio/live pairs. I have about another 75-80 live cuts that aren't on any studio recording. Again, some of them aren't very good quality.

That is so ironic [right usage or am I pulling an Alanis Morrisette here?] that you said that!! Just yesterday I was playing around with the idea of trying to see if it was possible to recreate each album in its entirety from live versions of the songs. It'd be weird because Jimmy's on-stage babblings wouldn't match up from song to song, but it's definitely an interesting idea.

BTW, if you're missing some live versions, LMK what they are and I'll see if I can help you out.

Very nice!

I actually got an LG Fusic phone from Sprint. Needed a new cell phone badly and did not have an ipod yet...and did not want to carry 2 devices around....IT IS JUST PERFECT!!!!

I found 1 problem ripping w/ windows media...it obviously rips to a WMA file, but my phone does not recognize that type of file. Luckily, I simply re-named them with an mp3 extention and it worked like a charm...just time consuming. Next disk I'll make sure to designate as mp3 only (hopefully you can do that).

Thanks again people!
