2008 Rare Tracks Collection

Now it wouldn't be an end to a great year if I didn't post a chart or two.

Here's all the shows aired on RM in 2008 at a glance:

What used to be the 10 must-plays has now become the 13 must-plays. Since Why Don't We Get Drunk got dropped, It's Five O'Clock Somewhere and Brown Eyed Girl were played at every single (aired) show, and School Boy Heart and Southern Cross were played at all but one or two of the (aired) shows.

But what I find most enjoyable hearing are those rare gems that were played just once or twice. So here are all the songs that were aired just once or twice this year. I left out all the ones that have already posted in the 2008 Encore Collection. Thank you for that SunLover! That was part of the inspiration to put this together, although I think we talked about doing something like this last year but it never materialized.

The only exception I made is We're Still Here, an important song that probably had something to do with the name of the tour.

That one was played 6 times, and so I included just the first and last plays for that one.

These are not the same recordings taken from anything already posted here. They were made especially for this collection and include all the related introductions and banter.

And one more note I've posted before somewhere here, when RM plays "We're Still Here", it shows up in the Sirius playlist as "Still Making Records (We're Still Here"). So I guess we're not really sure what the title of that is until it shows up on a release sometime.

Yeah, good point. Need to go back and listen to the other 4 versions to find out when he changed the name!

In the Woodlands version Jimmy called it "We're Still Here", but in New York he did introduce it as "Still Making Records".

(Molly who would have ever thought people in the Woodlands would be singing the Blue Tarp Blues? That was one song that Sonny did at the Woodlands that I thought was so special.)

He introduced the song as follows:
Houston: We're Still Here
St Louis: We're Still Here
Dallas: No real intro, but said "we're still here" when describing the song.
NOLA: You could faintly hear Jimmy away from the mic tell Sonny Landreth "We're gonna do We're Still Here".
MSG: We're Still Making Records

My vote is "We're Still Here".

I guess you don't consider WDWGD a rare track, since it was played so often in 2008.

Still rare to me to hear Jimmy sing the song solo acoustic...all the way through without props and skits, etc.

So, I included it in my folder.

I do hope that my chart helped you pick out the right version of that song... Personal preference, but I didn't have the stomach to listen to all those WDWGDs again!

WDWGD was SO GOOD at Jazz Fest...completely hysterical!!! I was happy when it was removed from the setlist last year but the times I heard it this year were very funny.

JB doing it acoustic was great this year too...but it does make the "Rare" collection rated R rather than PG!!
